With Germany there is no mythology

OktoberfestMunich.jpg

A General Theory of Rubbish hosts a handy round-up of post-England/Portugal comment. Elsewhere on the internets, K-Punk considers the "libidinal disorder" afflicting the England side; a Transcendental Defeatist belief structure.

England's repeated failure in penalty shoot-outs is not down to bad fortune, as the English media, with its empiricist presuppositions, insists. To lose once might be an accident, but to lose five times demands a psychoanalytic explanation.

Vive la France! Allez les Bleus!

Lets hope Portugal crushes France and then Italy.

I had failed to anticipate the trickiness an Italy/Germany game must have made for in the Rue/Kraut household!

As for Portugal, I remain convinced a French win will provide the maximum irritation factor I crave. Still, I am happy with any of the remaining teams now that Germany and Argentina have been shown the door.

I don't care who crushes Italy so long as they get crushed, given their unsportsmanlike attitude in yesterday's game. Camoranesi was particularly ill-tempered.

With two Latin teams I have no idea how the referee decides who to cheat for.

"With two Latin teams I have no idea how the referee decides who to cheat for."

Whichever team he's placed his bets on to win!
