Shame

I was approached for a quote by Better Living Centre regarding prevailing Toronto opinion about President George W. Bush, a man who has brought the promise of freedom to fifty million souls. This is what I had to say.

At 10:45 a.m., May 30, 1867 thousands of Toronto residents cheered as a visitor to Canada set foot on Milloy's Wharf in Toronto harbour. That the visitor had been President of a society founded on the right to own slaves did not matter. Jefferson Davis had stood up to the United States and that was all that mattered to an anti-American crowd. Not much has changed since then (and we should be ashamed).

Thanks to Adam Mayers' Dixie and the Dominion for the reference. There is much more from this source I intend to write about at some point.
