Beslan

It took less than a day for the vultures at The Guardian to point a finger of blame for the butchery at Beslan. The guilty: Russia, America and Israel.

As the drama of Beslan was entering its final hours, George Bush was bidding for re-election on the promise of security to the American people, a security premised on the willingness to use overwhelming military force. It was the same promise that Putin gave to the Russians and Ariel Sharon to the people of Israel. All three have used violence freely in pursuit of electoral reward: Sharon's provocative visit to the Temple of the Mount that triggered the second intifada, Putin's reckless adventurism in re-launching the Chechen war in 1999, and the Bush invasion of Iraq.

But this is only the beginning. The mourning has only begun yet this Guardian comment cannot offer a modicum of blame for the jihadis, men who shot fleeing children in the back. Rather, this lastest massacre is described as "a rational tactic" and an excuse to launch a vicious, inexplicable attack on the government of Nepal.

I love the moral equivocation with regard to Nepal. On the one side, we have the government, which is under a constitutional monarchy as in countries like Britain or Canada -- and which has even has the Marxist-Leninists in the prime minister's seat. On the other, we have an armed insurrection which has managed to kill ten thousand over the last ten years.

And so... "An outright victory by either side in Nepal could only come at appalling cost and would presage further suffering. If Nepal is to have a future, it must be a negotiated one - and one which addresses the Nepal's extremes of social injustice."

I have nothing to say to such people, other than a three word phrase involving a well-known four letter expletive and a reflexive statement, as in this column.

"has even has the Marxist-Leninists" = "has even had the Marxist-Leninists"

*blush*

The way Ms Hilton's mind works is horrific. It not enough to infer blame on the US for the the pre-9/11 actions of Putin and Sharon (who's Temple Mount visit did not cause the intifada,). She also blames the States for the actions of unscrupulous Indian job-placement agents: "The US was at one end of the long chain of lies that brought the (Nepalese) men to Iraq."
Economic migrants flow from Nepal because decades of economic statism have left that country a sclerotic mess . But even with that, you wouldn't blame dependista economic theorists for the murders in Iraq. Western leftist political theory can be summarized as follows: "absolve the guilty, blame the west, self flagellate, repeat as needed."
