Ode to the Flea

An ode! Just for me! And sensible thoughts about Dark Knight Returns and a bad turn in comic book history can be found at Let It Bleed.

DKR, Watchmen, Maus. These are held up as comics as ďartĒ, the moment when the potential inherent in the medium was realized and brought to a large audience (Maus, of course, is not a superhero comic). While Maus was innovative, but not terribly good (I think itís renown is largely due to the fact that itís conceit was so striking, not that it told the story in a particularly good way), DKR was both: it was innovative and good. But good in a self-defeating way. Good because it was aesthetically pleasing. Bad because it ruined everything.

It should be obvious I have quite a bit more to say about this. Off to the comments section...

I dedicate an entire post to further the flea's sex symbol status, and nothing. Fine.

Very well. I may have overreacted a little.

I blame my memory loss on the Okanagan's blazing heat.

I should see about something better nonetheless.

(It took me several tries with this post to discover I had Blacklisted the word "none"... does nobody use the expression "nonetheless"?)
