World War II was deemed insufficient reason to give FDR a wartime pass on criticism by the Republican party of his day. Churchill won the war but his government lost the election of 1945. And wartime Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King understood a large part of Canada was unwilling to fight the Nazis at all. No prizes for guessing which part. La plus que change...
