XM8 Assault Rifle
A proposed new weapon for the United States military comes in a number of shapes and sizes all of which look like they would be handy on a bug hunt (via Rocket Jones).

What an awesome-looking carbine! Seems like the sort of thing Colonial Marines like Pte. Hudson and Cpl. Hicks would lug around. I hope the advanced field testing goes well.

I've heard to many lame excuses about why we shouldent adopt this gone. "Its made of plastic...its going to melt" "It looks like a toy" It looks bulier then the M4 it wont be good if a soldier fired it from a hum-v"
Now lets give these few comments about this gun some thought.
1.Its not going to melt!. this just isent any kind of plastic, this is top of the line quality stuff, composite matirials. The FN P90 is also made up of composite matirials and it has been very sucesfull in combat.
2.Sure it KINDA looks like a toy, but that dosent mean its going to function like a toy.
3.Actualy the xm8 is smaller then the m4, it also weighs less.
I think the army is headed in the right direction with the xm8, It is a beautiful gun, the only problem that i have with it at the moment is that it is chambered in 5.56mm which is a great bullet, but just dosent SEEM to cut it these days, soldiers have complained in Iraq that the 5.56 dident have enuff range or stopping power that they needed. The Nilitary adopted the 5.56 back in vietnam becouse they wanted the soldiers to be able to carry more ammo.So they could just spray an enemy. but since vietnam the U.S. Military has made most of their soldiers fine marksman. So soldiers dont need to carry as much ammo. I think the XM8 would be perfect if it was chambered in 6.8 SPC. Its a little larger then the 5.56 so the soldier will have to carry less but it has about 50% more stopping power then the 5.56 so the soldier dosent have to waist as much ammo on an enemy, it also has more range then the 5.56 so it will give the XM8 "sniping' abilities.
Well thats my cents, I hope this weapon gets adopted.
