Camp Babylon
Vandals destroyed a scale model of the tower of Babel in the looting of Baghdad's museum. I think this one qualifies as tragedy descending into farce as the evil-doers prove once again that they can only smash the things they could never aspire to build.
A Navy Seabee attached to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was on hand to save the day.
Builder 2nd Class Roger Hatcher is an avid model builder in his hometown, Moorpark, Calif. He is known for his complex working model ships that fire cannons by remote control. Naturally, his skill made him the right man for the job of rebuilding the tower of Babel model.
“When we got to Iraq, I thought I’d be working on hospitals and schools. To be able to work on a historic site that people could look at and say, ‘that’s what it was like,’ was pretty rewarding,” said Hatcher.
And then... Hi folks. I am removing some details from comments left to this post. Remember, anybody could be reading this. Please use discretion with that in mind.
