On the surface, this seems like good news

"Is Sony's The Last of Us movie a good idea?"

The old problem with video game movies was that the central stories and writing just weren’t on par with traditional films. The quality wasn’t there. Now the quality is there, and I would argue the best games, like The Last of Us, can create entertainment experiences even better than movies, giving the player investment in the story by controlling the protagonist’s actions and fully immersing them in the environment.

That’s the problem though. These game work great as games, but stripped of its “game-ness,” The Last of Us may turn into just another post-apocalyptic sci-fi zombie movie.

Encouraging: Sam Raimi is producing the film.

Naughty Dog related: "Earlier this week we had to confirm the regrettable news that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog."
