One Mind

Spirit_stealth_fighter.jpg

A prototype of Japan's stealth fighter, the Mitsubishi ATD-X Shinshin ("Spirit"), is set to fly in 2014. Unlike China's Chengdu J-20 reveal, this one will have full thrust vectoring.

He said Japan has put 39 billion yen ($473 million) into the project since 2009, after it became clear the United States was not likely to sell it the F-22 "Raptor" - America's most advanced fighter jet - because of a congressional export ban.

Brought to you by: Japanese engineering and materials finesse and, somewhat more cogently, a congressional export ban (on thirty year old stealth technology) and the current administration's policy of militarizing the entire planet, American hegemony no longer being quite as credible as once it was.
