The Royal Navy: First Sea Lord SDSR Interview
An elf interviews a befuddled admiral. I expect the superfluous unsteadycam is meant to convince us their conversation was held on the bridge of Galactica.
Such is the triumph of the virtual. Why bother with actually existing ships when public relations talk can be a place-holder for the Royal Navy in England's symbolic grammar. The UK seems determined to prove Baudrillard right: the Gulf War never happened after all.
It is a sorry spectacle.
Much less depressing: The Royal Navy HMS Dauntless Tour. And here she is inbound to Tyne 30th April 2010.

Lovely ship. Where once there were hundreds now only one. The USN mourns the loss of the Royal Navy, soon to be only Flag Corps and Marching Bands. Perhaps Victory can be pressed back into service. Why has not ADM Sir Mark Stanhope resigned over the dis-embowlment of his fleet. Right, he is a "process person", understanding of the "realities", and is "really annoyed". Wow, such strong leadership. All to transfer funds to those on the dole. Nelson is mourning.
