Memory works both ways

This + some breakthrough for Lamarckian genetics = Dune.

Dr. [Daryl] Bem, a social psychologist at Cornell University, conducted a series of studies that will soon be published in one of the most prestigious psychology journals (Journal of Personality and Social Psychology). Across nine experiments, Bem examined the idea that our brain has the ability to not only reflect on past experiences, but also anticipate future experiences. This ability for the brain to "see into the future" is often referred to as psi phenomena.

I remember attending a talk by Ray Kuzrweil 7 years ago. He was speaking about the integration of the human mind and computers.

At the time, I had been developing complex "influence diagrams" as a decision making structure for a client, with a key feature of being able to run the diagram through a Monte-Carlo simulation.

It struck me at the Kurzweil talk that if you combined the processing power of a computer and the subtle ability of the human mind to make connections and identify patterns, you effectively have the ability to identify something very much like the Golden Path.

Of course, you are also likely to start the Butlerian Jihad, but it'll be fun while it lasts!
