The vendor of the faith

Prince Charles has been foisting halal lamb on the British public - his future subjects - without bothering to let them know. Whatever principle was involved has been swiftly abandoned now the practice has been brought to public attention.

Waitrose is to introduce a range of non-halal lamb products as a response to customers’ concerns about its meat supplies. Until now, all lamb sold by the store has been slaughtered in accordance with Islamic law, with a Muslim reciting a prayer in Arabic over the meat.

But Waitrose said last night that, from now on, organic Welsh lamb from its Duchy Originals range – established by Prince Charles to market produce from his estates – will no longer be halal.

Shame be to him who thought it was a good idea in the first place.

Waitrose claims their change of heart is meant to offer the consumer more a choice. Pity we cannot say the same of the Crown.

Grand Mufti of Cyprus: "Did you know that Prince Charles has converted to Islam. Yes, yes. He is a Muslim. I can't say more. But it happened in Turkey. Oh, yes, he converted all right. When you get home check on how often he travels to Turkey. You'll find that your future king is a Muslim."

Can't they just imprison him in the Tower or something and get his brothers to abdicate and let one of Diana's kids take over?

Or will they have to arrange a massive accident or something?

Charles ascending the throne would be the greatest threat of abolishing the position since King John sat his bony fundament upon it, and there's no Robin Hood around to go all Runnymede on 'em, to mangle a lot of history.

Hey, I get to do that. I had some obscure ancestor present on the winning side at Runnymede. Oh, no one of sufficient import as to make the List mind you. Some hanger-on in a medieval posse-equivalent.
