To sanction or not to sanction

Hear no evil: Prices soar as sanctions hit "ordinary Iranians".

The latest measures are mainly aimed at vital sectors of the economy such as banking and energy, which analysts say will raise the cost of trade by making it more difficult to transfer funds or insure cargoes.

In shops and markets, people say they are struggling to cope, squeezed by soaring rents and grocery bills on the one hand and stagnant salaries on the other.

Perhaps someone might enlighten me. Barring market distortions produced by domestic legislation, I would have thought a depressed economy and constraints on wages would lead to lower rents. But then I am assuming this is Reuters propaganda and should perhaps not attempt to make sense of it beyond that.

See no evil: Geert Wilders calls for an "International Freedom Alliance" whose aim is to stop Islamic immigration (hat tip to Rochelle).

[H]e will launch the movement late this year, initially in five countries: the U.S., Canada, Britain, France and Germany.

“The message, ‘stop Islam, defend freedom,’ is a message that’s not only important for the Netherlands but for the whole free Western world,” Wilders said at the Dutch parliament.

Demography being what it is, a full stop to Islamic immigration is only a finger in the dyke as opposed to, say, conversion and assimilation. In Africa it is Christianity, in North Ameria we have our fingers crossed for Lady Gaga.

Speak no evil: The Palestinian Authority silences news of the attempted rape of an American "peace activist".

Omar Aladdin, who had been arrested three months ago over suspicions he had attempted to rape the U.S. citizen, was subsequently released after agreeing to apologize to the young woman. However, Haaretz had learned that representatives of both the popular protest movement and the PA have since applied pressure on the American peace activist as to prevent her from making the story public.
...
During his stay Aladdin allegedly attempted to rape a Muslim-American woman, nicknamed “Fegin” by fellow activists. The woman escaped, later accusing the popular protest man of the attempt.

Which is to entirely miss the point. Raped American "peace activists" are only practicing what they preach; they are protesting in favour of Islamic law in Judea and Samaria therefore "Fegin"'s only ideological error was to report the incident and the Palestinian Authority should have charged her with adultery. No rape, no peace.
