Kicking off
Today's leftist knows the Crusades were a kind of medieval colonialism, a prequel to the West's age of empire and, as such, a bad thing. As a consequence, today's leftist has no explanation for the English Defence League beyond the libellous catch all of "racism". But any student of the Crusades who has bothered to pick up a book will have no trouble recognizing the EDL for what it is: Self-defense.
We didn't start it. They started it. And as I have no reason to believe our governments or security services have learned a damned thing, it looks all too likely to get ugly.
The police are here in force, too. 'Take that mask off,' barks a sergeant to one young man. He does so immediately but protests: 'Why are they allowed to wear burkas in public but we're not allowed to cover our faces?'
'Just do what you're told,' the policeman snaps back.
'It's always the same these days. One rule for them and another for us. I'm sick of this country,' a man standing next to me says in a West Country accent.
Don't imagine Canada is exempt from history. We are perhaps ten years down the road from the same situation if our government cannot bring itself to apply the rule of law to everyone without exception or special consideration. Expect this sort of thing sooner in Quebec. The French are a sentimental people but when it comes to self-interest - to self-preservation - they have an admirable lack of regard for wounded feelings.
You are not alone: If the gay Clintonite die hards at HillBuzz are talking vigilantism and Crusade, I am willing to bet there are tens of millions of Reagan Democrats who share their feelings (via Five Feet of Fury).
We want the West to fight back. If governments won’t do this, then the marketplace demands an answer to Al Queda in the form of a new Knights Templar, or something of that sort. Kind of an A-Team that’s summoned into action after a terrorist attack, doing what the US, Israel, and other political entities are seemingly prevented from doing by liberals. It can be totally rogue, and governments can threaten its existence and despise all who are a part of it, but just imagine if Muslims feared a boogeyman out there just waiting to punish them for their evil deeds.
Don't imagine it will stop at mosques. How many roughed up BBC journalists would it take before they remembered their journalistic "objectivity"? It is not as though we are talking about men who would stand up for themselves or their families, men who would fight back to defend a liberty they so despise. There will be law for all it will be the law of the jungle.
Just "asking questions", you understand. Stephen Harper, I pray you are paying attention. Events strongly suggest you aren't.

The EDL are essentially a fascist gang of drunken football hooligans based on controlling the streets and intimidating people, and their demos regularly contain BNP members and people doing the sieg heil salute. They are extremely dangerous and you should not be so naive.

Then you and I had better hope the authorities decide to impose the rule of law, the only thing I have ever called for in England, Canada and everywhere else we have forgotten what our ancestors learned about dealing with piracy.
Because if it is not the rule of law it will be the rule of the mob or a new set of rules no man of the left should be happy to see his female friends and relatives be forced to adopt.
