Goose-stepping into the future

Mainland China celebrates sixty years of communist dictatorship with flowers, fireworks and a parade.

It was the Middle Kingdom, the world's most cohesive and enduring society, which pioneered not just the compass, gunpowder and printing, but porcelain, paperback books and a medieval postal service that would put today's Royal Mail to shame.

Normally, I can't stand this sort of fawning, majestic history of the Ewoks lie but given the state of the Royal Mail one is pressed to disagree.

fawning, majestic history of the Ewoks lie...

Pure gold.

Also another reason why George Lucas needs to be declared mentally incompetent and the whole SW universe turned over to a competent conservator.

As we are seeing in Afstan the "primitive" folk are not able to defeat the "advanced" folk in set-piece battles; they get their asses whomped. But by making selective use of high tech (namely, communications, high explosives, remote triggers, pressure fuses etc) they could wage an attrition battle against a better-teched force and (possibly) eventually get the advanced force to tire of it.

None of which would have worked against the Empire because 1) the troopers are clones and 2) they wouldn't give a damn how many it took.

But to get back on track, ahem, the Royal Mail. Yes, regrettable.
