The original "evil empire" speech

President Ronald Reagan's Address to the British Parliament (June 8, 1982) is the specific for what ails us. And by "us" I mean "me". I have read Tolkien and I understand despair in the face of the darkness is a sin. This helps (transcript here).

Brings a tear to my eye it does. Who would have thought in 1982 that we'd see the fall of the Berlin Wall? It was an inconceivable pipe dream at the time, but it happened.

Of course, we had Ronald Reagan then. What have we got now?

I like his warning about the power of the state. I wonder if we'd even deserve Reagan now.
