We have no one but ourselves to blame. We did not live up to our end of the bargain with Japan.

We don't even have the same decency that Honorius did when he told the Roman-Britons to look to their own defence.
Then again, given how we've just screwed Poland & Czech Rep., I think that the emergent Great Powers of the 21st C can draw their own conclusions.
Y'know, the pols in places such as Russia & Japan aren't stupid; they know that demographics doom their nations in two to three generations. I wonder if at some point they'll say, "Fuck it, let's go for it"?

Well. It is obvious to everyone in east Asia that the SecDef and the Pentagon are no longer devoting significant dollars or mindshare to facing off against large, conventional threats. They are focused on winning the small unconventional wars that they have, and those wars are going to take a few decades to get in hand.
So it's no surprise that Australia and Japan are starting to look around, take stock of their dangerous neighborhood, and wonder who, if anyone, is going to enforce community standards on the dangerous-looking hood (and his smallerm crazier sidekick) down the street.
