There's a name for people who take up arms against their country

Charles W. Moore considers Omar Khadr: child soldier, young offender and something else besides.

As for Khadr's being Canadian, whatever the facts about the grenade murder, he was in Afghanistan fighting the ISAF coalition of which Canada is part. There's a name for people who take up arms against their country: "traitor." It is legally defined as a Canadian citizen who "assists an enemy at war with Canada, or any armed forces against whom Canadian Forces are engaged in hostilities, whether or not a state of war exists between Canada and the country whose forces they are."

If Khadr ever makes it back to Canada, it would be appropriate to immediately charge him with treason. However, Canadian legal experts express doubt that he would be charged with anything at all, which is why he's exactly where he should be.

I admit I laughed at a lot of the hyperventilation over this guy's "torture" after that video tape was released. I had two overriding thoughts after watching it:

1. His lawyers supposedly had access to something like 11 hours of taped interrogation, and this was the worst they could feature in the highlights?

2. The Canadian interrogator cracked me up. Something about the "gee gosh" Canuck accent and made me think of being questioned by Ned Flanders. Highlight (paraphrased):

"No, I can't get you out of here. Can you get me out of Canada so I can live here? The weather is great!"
