And so it begins

There are rumblings at Enturbulation of hijacking the "human rights" commissions as a tool to use against the "church" of Scientology. Given events, my only surprise is the Scientologists have not already tried to use the HRCs as a tool to use against Anonymous (via Blazing Cat Fur).

Mr. Flay has been paying attention.

... if an anon with some real experience with the Commission can find us an in, this has the potential to be pretty cool, and we should make full use of it. Could cost the cult a fair deal of money if they lost, and even if they won any given case, having to deal with the tribunal process would at least be a pain in their ass.

The process is the punishment.

Isn't this exactly the type of "end justifies the means" reasoning that we condemn in the valiant pursuers of the nazi hordes of Canada?

Yes, it is exactly the same sort of abuse. Though to my mind the HRC process is inherently abusive. Please note, I am radically pro Anonymous but my post does not endorse this tactic. What it does do is point out at least someone at Anonymous has figured out the HRC process is the punishment.

What puzzles me is how the HRCs will react should anyone at Anonymous decide to submit a complaint. They could ignore it; so far as I know Jay Currie has yet to receive an acknowledgment, let alone reply, to any of the complaints he has submitted.

The HRCs are hardly going to treat Scientologists as victims of hate crime the same way they do for the injured feelings of Islamists. That said, if the Scientologists had got in first I would not be surprised if the HRCs went after Anonymous in the same way the London thought police tried to do re. the May 10 action.
