The future of this country

And why it is time to leave.

The Trudeaupianization of the state is one reason why Conservatives wind up fighting every election within a Liberal frame. The policing of speech exemplified by Section 13 is a big part of that: it ensures that difficult issues can only be discussed within the parameters of "Liberal values". So the Nicholson brief doesn't even make sense even in terms of self-preservation. But for now it's the only public position a Conservative government is willing to take, and it condemns Canada to restraints on liberty incompatible with a free society.

It does suck, but I'm not sold on the leaving bit.

Where would England be if the Roundheads just up and left and hightailed it to the colonies? Or George Washington and Co. decided to retire to French Martinique rather than take on the British Army?

This round seems like a relatively easy win. I could be wrong. But I don't think Section 13 will live on in its present form. I have confidence that in time, HRCs will either become properly focused and more rigiorous in their investigations and evidence handling, or simply pass into bureaucratic irrelevance and eventually become defunded.

In an ideal world we would have granted women the vote, ended racial segregation and so on without any particular individual having to unfairly bear the burden of being the test case and having their day in court. But that's not how modern Western civilisation ends up doing things.

So while it seems bogus and stupid to even have to make the arguments and go to court, at some point, something beneficial will be the end result. It may take decades, who knows. I would rather shell out a hundred bucks a month to somebody's defense fund for several years, than have to pack up and leave crown and country behind. This is my homeland, too. Why should I let some other dude ruin it without a fight?

Well there's not many places to run to. the UK? France? the USA? Australia? They all have the same or worse problems than us.

The line is drawn here behind us is a precipice, we either stand firm and push back, or we will be pushed off by the Warman's of the world.

These are all fair points and I admire anyone choosing to stand and fight. That said, the First and Second Amendments of the United States Constitution would give me some cause to believe I could write what I want to write. As it is, I censor everything I say and even then am quite certain some aggrieved party could have me before a "human rights" tribunal.

As to those who do choose to stay, I am open to suggested courses of action.

Not being trite, but in all honesty, the phrase "Keep Calm and Carry On" comes to mind.

Or to paraphrase Ms. Shaidle directly... God has already won the victory. We are merely running out the clock in style.

And I'm serious about the monthly contribution. This is a long-term fight. A single donation isn't going to do it; best to budget for even a 10 or 20-buck contribution every month and just keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
