The Crucible, cont.

America Alone author Mark Steyn, his critics, and Canada's Human Rights Act on The Agenda.

Next up is a re-debate with the "Sock Puppet Three" for May 20 or so (via Blazing Cat Fur).

Also via Blazing Cat Fur, Alan Shanoff writes "Human rights code too vague".

I'm sure Japanese people would be hurt and exposed to hatred or contempt if we discuss the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Germans would be exposed to hatred or contempt if we discuss the Holocaust. Let's not discuss the Chinese government's treatment of Tibet or Tiananmen Square. And we better not discuss the Armenian Genocide. People may be upset or feel hurt.

Look, I could go on, but isn't it clear that if we want to comply with all of the hate speech sections of the various human rights codes then we are going to have to rewrite all of our history text books? And who are we going to hire to rewrite these texts? Who among us is sufficiently politically correct and willing to accept that everyone's beliefs are worthy of equal protection so as to be qualified to rewrite history? Will we need a Ministry of Truth or a Ministry of Silliness?

I call it the Ministry of Nice but it has yet to catch on.

Related: Kathy Shaidle believes we are not being obnoxious enough, given the stakes. She is correct.
