It is the sort of thing I had assumed was already in place; just as well it has been made formal. I certainly feel safer knowing that if push comes to shove Fort Drum is just over the border.

Living near the Great Lakes, I had always assumed the two Coast Guards cooperated like this. Maybe they do and this extends it to the rest of the armed forces.

I'm pretty sure Canada scrambled CF/A-18s on 9/11. I guess that was through NORAD.

Well, it was pretty darn formal during the cold war with the US providing the Canadians with AIR-2 Genies under a dual key system. That way Ottawa didn't have to say they had nukes but when push came to shove, Canadian CF-101 Voodoos would be armed with them in very short order for use against the Red Hordes flying over the pole.

The acquisition of C17s and new tanks is a good start.

Now to get you guys more tanks, some real destroyers and a couple of cruisers.

Even better, Montieth: a San Antonio-class ship or three, so we can better deploy where we need to. I fear the proposed JSS is trying to fit too many requirements and capabilities into one hull, and won't meet any of them well.

Yep. A couple of Gator Carriers or even Fast RO-RO ships with space for troops AND kit for moving CanForces around would be useful.....
