Brokered convention
Just a thought. Yes, the swamp vapours at State have lead to some troubling actions; most particularly with respect to Israel. But Condoleeza Rice would certainly be no worse than the rest of the field, would be a twofer against the identity politics of the Democratic front runners and, unless I am mistaken, would be the the first President with a doctorate.
And hot. Smokin', smokin' hot.
Rice/Bolton 2008!
Update: My Rice/Bolton ticket is running into some headwind.

Woodrow Wilson.

A proper Wilsonian, a crusading idealist who would get the US out of the UN, sounds fine to me.
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at January 26, 2008 08:22 AM
No, no, no.
Wilson had a PhD. He was a professor, then president of Princeton, then governor of New Jersey, then president.
Posted by: Ben (The Tiger in Exile) at January 26, 2008 08:31 AM
Ahh... Excellent. And I was wondering how you would work Princeton in there...
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at January 26, 2008 08:34 AM
With Wilson, it's kinda difficult not to.
Posted by: Ben (The Tiger in Exile) at January 26, 2008 08:42 AM
Yes, but the hotness.

She was the candidate I wanted to see run in '08.
(Figuratively. Wait -- no, literally, too.)
Posted by: Ben (The Tiger in Exile) at January 26, 2008 08:48 AM
The shame is she is more likely to be president of Princeton than Senator for Alabama or Colorado. Good for whatever university or thinktank she lands at; a pity for the Senate.

Actually, If we're going to go there (Identity politics that is) I'd like to see former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts somwhere on a ticket.
He even has Canadian cred as he played in the CFL for about 6 years.
Besides, a guy who has the cojones to call Jesse Jackson a "race hustling poverty pimp" can't be bad...

Personally I think the very erudite J C Watts would be a far better choice for VP.
Posted by: Andrew Ian Dodge at January 26, 2008 09:59 AM
J.C. Watts is a brilliant choice; a perfect counterpoint to Senator Obama and with a lot of the same '60s charisma. His exit from public life was so speedy that I figured somebody had something on him... does anybody know have a notion of what happened?
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at January 26, 2008 10:28 AM
If somebody did, it must have really been something, because he weathered Larry Flynt revealing that he had two illegitimate children during the Clinton impeachment crisis, and then broke his own promise to retire after two terms (he served four).
I agree that Watts would be an excellent Veep pick -- very good in his TV appearances, and the ex-QB thing never hurts.

Thompson-Rice?
Posted by: JohnAnnArbor at January 26, 2008 06:07 PM
Rice-Thompson.
Posted by: Ed Flinn at January 26, 2008 07:31 PM
Heck, if the GOP felt like throwing everyone for a loop, how about Rice-Watts? :p
Times change -- in 2001, wasn't it wild, seeing that both W's NSA and SecState were black?
Posted by: Ben (The Tiger in Exile) at January 26, 2008 08:23 PM
We are on exactly the same wave length.
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at January 26, 2008 08:43 PM
John Bolton would make an excellent Secretary of State.
Posted by: Ghost of a flea at January 26, 2008 08:44 PM
He would.
Incidentally, there are rumours that if McCain takes the nomination, Rice would make an interesting running-mate for him. (From Bob Novak on Fox News.)

"The shame is she is more likely to be president of Princeton than Senator for Alabama or Colorado."
Oh please. I would definately vote for her for Senator from Alabama. She could replace Shelby, whose idea of proper behavior as a Senator is to skip all the controversial votes so nobody can say bad things about him. I'd like to keep Sessions, however, as he is the real deal.

Translate "Oh please" in the previous comment as "Oh yes!" , not "You must be out of your mind." I realized just after I posted that "Oh please" has multiple interpretations that are primarily distinguished by tone of voice.

Much appreciated. What I meant to say is that I do not believe Rice has any political ambitions but will quite cheerfully move into whatever academic sinecure pleases her once this administration passes the torch to the next.
