Skypirate Regalia

EveninGentsbyVladislausDantes.jpg

You ever find out about somebody who does what you do but does it so much better? Yeah, this guy. Vladislaus Dantes has upped the ante.

Mr Dantes, of the forum and DeviantArt, has created this most marvellous of Steampunk costumes! With a brass breastplate, back-mounted Aetheric Generator and really rather formiddable looking gun - this is a gentleman (or rather, a well spoken scoundrel) who would trawl the skies for tea and plunder in a Steampunk world. I very much admire the skill and detail that has gone into this - there are hinged pocket covers on the breastplate so that the pocketwatch may still be used, for example.

I guess this is where metal fabrication skills come in handy.

I am getting a bit aged and too parental for dressup but were I less restrained I would go full bore steampunk. I do love the leather and brass and glass look. Mayhap I will just start wearing goggles. I can do that. Goggles and a weatherbeaten dusty leather jacket.

hrmm.. I feel a fiction post to my blog coming on...

Gorthos, well make sure you send it in to the Storyblogging Carnival. I have one coming as well; all based around one line that came into my head in a dream.

Storyblogging Carnival?

I know of no such beastie? What be the link?

I dreamed of steampunkish rail travel across ontario last night.. odd that. Never been on a train.

Whereas I find it enormously strange you have never been on a train!

Well, let me rewind a bit. I have been on a subway, once, when about 20. But no true outside in in the canadian wilds rail vehicle.

TTC subway every day and streetcar a number of times a week, Montreal and Paris Metros, London Underground, Manchester Metrolink, San Francisco streetcar and subway, Atlanta rapid transit, same in Vancouver, proper railways in Canada, the United States, England and France including the TGV that travels through the Channel Tunnel... I am sure I am forgetting something here... the monorail at Disneyworld!

But what I want is to travel from Cape to Cairo on the Pride of Africa.

Posted by: Gorthos [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 09:10 AM

Oh my.. that African trek by rail would be spectabulous

Posted by: Gorthos [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 09:10 AM

I regret to inform you there is nothing whatsoever to do in Mississauga.

Posted by: Ghost of a flea [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 19, 2007 09:13 AM

Indeed. However, you could always take the GO train into the city. There's lots going on there.

Monorail at Disney World (monorail! monorail!). Undergrounds in Toronto, London, Boston, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka. Trains all over Japan, incl the bullet trains. Trains between Chatham ONT and Halifax and between Halifax and Sydney NS (way back when). Speaking of steam, the one from Hull to Wakefield QUE.

Friends took the train across Siberia a few years back and loved it. I'd like an Orient Express ride at some point; and the Rocky Mountain Express; but Africa does sound awesome.

And whilst on the topic of trains and steampunks.. I was listening to an olde bande from the 70s today in the car with the kiddees and finally listened to the lyrics of Sub-Rosa Subway by Klaatu...

INteresting. Alfred Ely Beach was a real true to life steampunk pioneer...
