Happy New Year everybody!

This one goes with a special shout-out to Bill Ardolino on his way to Fallujah. Now is the time at the Flea when we dance (I'll explain later).

Oh I remember Magic Pantry meals which were the civvie version of the MRE's we ate on exercises.. Oh the swiss steak. We'd trade cookies and coffee and backrubs for the Swiss Steak.. um, I mean, um, coffee and cookies.

They were mind stickers.

I had remembered those as Salisbury steaks but I defer to your obviously better memory. They freaking ruled. I am making a reasonably elaborate turmeric/cumin rice with chicken in a brandy-infused strawberry and orange sauce for dinner tonight and I expect it is going to be pretty good. But I would trade it in a second for one of those steaks.

And, yes, they were mind stickers for certain.

Oh yes, there was Salsbury steak which was supreme, but the one the guys in my unit and a few others bartered over was Swiss Steak. It was rare to get it. Slices of carrot and thinly sliced beef in a sweet sauce.. yummmmm.

Flea? You are ex-mil?

I cannot find Swiss Steak anywhere.. maybe its my memory...

Now I'm going to find a Freddychef Vendor in Ktown and load up.. my wife will be annoyed but I'll tell her its part of our new Survival(ist) kit I am building for the new homestead.

Hi Gorthos,

I regret to say I am not ex-military. I was a consultant to UK defense contractors and the MOD for a few years so I got to live out some of my Jack Ryan aspirations. My MRE experience comes from being raised by Protestant survivalists; I often get the two ideologies confused.
