All the Young Dudes

Readers of Dave Navarro's blog would not have been surprised by Wednesday-night's double-eviction from the Rock Star mansion as Dave had telegraphed the possibility several days beforehand. Just remember: There are no losers in the Rock Star mansion.* Another place, another time, baby.

This week's Flea high-light was Zayra Alvarez' spectacular cover of David Bowie's All the Young Dudes. Her vocals are bit muddy in places. Umm... who cares? She has grasped the spirit of the thing exactly. Loved the platforms and form-fitting gold jumpsuit - both by Trashy Lingerie - and triumpant top hat from New York Hat Co.. More important, and just as I had suspected, internet evidence of her Spanish vocals show what she can do given the chance. Not only spandex but substance.

Which is not to knock the spandex.

*Especially after T Lee lays down the Tommyhawk and chops their asses from the show. Josh Logan has a Jay Kay soul thing going on which I am sure makes him popular amongst people who enjoy that sort of thing. But it is so wrong for Supernova so so long to Josh. Jill Gioia's fake Heart-fan routine was really getting on my tits. Good riddance. And can someone please explain to me what it is with chicks and Janice Joplin? Caterwauling for the ages; almost as bad as being forced to endure Sylvia Plath.

When is Zayra going to give you a "Flea, you make me hot" quote for the sidebar??

An excellent question. On a related note, I sent a message along to Storm Large re. Chris Taylor's Susan Storm observation. While I did receive a reply it was from someone running what has now become her fansite. I expect Storm, Zayra and the rest will be incommunicado for the duration.

So what did they say... Or was it formletter-fu -- "Thanks for contacting the Storm Large Fan Club. We have received your message and a customer service representative will contact you regarding your recent inquiry..."

I read in the comments to a USA Today article that she was named after her mother's good friend, and has been called Storm since birth. Unfortunately the commenter provides no attribution so it could be just your typical Romantic protecting the mythos of his unattainable obession; or as they like to say in the biz, just some random rabid fan.

I should have mentioned: There was no answer to the question though, upon reflection, I think I was too oblique in how I asked so I am having another go.

Oh and on Joplin... could not agree more. Further nominations: Bjork and Tori Amos... Sorry, I know they're way up there in the pre-Raphaelite firmament.

I am now beyond envy over Mr. Taylor's apparent access to communication with people in the Marvel Comics Universe and in particular Sue Storm. I would be even more interested in telling the Thing and Silver Surfer of my admiration so if there is a way I can manage this somehow throught this crazy thing known as the information super highway, please let me know.

I actually worked with the Silver Surfer once. One of the directors (now Vice President) at uhmmm Canadian Pneumatic Rubber Wheel Cushion was named Silver, and his group at HQ made up these fantastic shirts with "Team Silver" and the well-known red triangular logo on the front, and a gigantic image of the Silver Surfer on the back.

Those things had a retail value greater than controlled substances at corp HQ. I still have one in the basement, I doubt I will ever part with it.

Okay so maybe it's not the Silver Surfer, but it's as close as I'm likely to get.
