Morrissey: Canada = Hitler

Acknowledging that it is "unlikely to bring the Canadian economy to its knees", Morrissey has announced he is boycotting Canadian venues in protest of the seal hunt. As protests go it is small beer considering the last Moz appearance in the Great White North was for three dates in 2002, preceded by one show in 2000 and one in 1997.

Morrissey also alleges that (Canadian Prime Minister Stephen) Harper "states that the slaughter is necessary because it provides jobs for local communities. ... Construction of German gas chambers also provided work for someone � this is not a moral or sound reason for allowing suffering," he said.

The 46-year-old singer concludes his message by calling for his fans to boycott Canadian goods, saying that Canada has "placed itself alongside China as the cruelest and most self-serving nation."

I once knew a Smiths fan, a vegetarian of course, who went on an all chocolate diet; I think she lasted six days. True story.
