At bloggerheads

That sales of the Daily Kos authored Crashing the Gate have been underwhelming is a source of some considerable hilarity to much of the blogosphere. But then I don't expect Kos readers fetishize commodities such as "books"; perhaps a free downloadable pdf copy would bring them back to the barricades. I gather Kos is not bothered as "No one ever writes a book to make money." Ann Althouse hammers that little nail back into place with a salient word or two from Samuel Johnson:

"No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money."

Think of it is a diagnostic statement. By contrast with Gates's crashing, Instapundit authored Army of Davids has scored a favourable Economist review despite the reviewer being all unaware that Glenn Reynolds' "techno-optimism" is hardly less well grounded than his blogging expertise. The affable professor "has testified before Congressional committees on space law, international trade, and domestic terrorism" and "has been executive chairman of the National Space Society and a member of the White House Advisory Panel on Space Policy."

"No man but a blockhead ever wrote except for money."

I wish someone had told me that 600 posts or so ago; it would have saved a great deal of typing.

You've really disappointed me, I thought you were a little above this sort of thing. Drudge's numbers are questionable, which has been pointed out, oh, everywhere.

"No man but a blockhead ..."

I'll remember that next time I read about the former Saul of Tarsus.

Heaven forbid I should disappoint someone called Grimmtooth. I imagine disappointing Grimmtooth's mother would be more troubling still!
