Am the Flea a Libertarian?

One welcome side-effect of writing rather more about Kate Beckinsale and rather less about Canadian politics is that I am not asked this question as often as I used to be. Now I find I am in almost 100% agreement with Scott Adams on the subject.

Frankly, I’m suspicious of anyone who has a strong opinion on a complicated issue. But when it comes to social questions, those are usually simple. I take sides with whatever viewpoint is good for me personally.

It should also be said that sometimes it's just impish humour and immature devilry that drives one to poke the sleeping bears of libertarianism and socialism. Greater reaction begets greater entertainment value. I know I can rarely resist in such cases.

I'm sure they'd say the same of conservatives like me -- although whether anyone else admits it is something else.

[half-wakes from sleep]...but conservatives are usually too insulated from reality to get a decent rise out of...[back to sleep under cozy comforting red blanket].

Please, Alan. Reality is hardly a requirement for blog-baiting. You just have to mouth the expected dialogue appropriate to a stock character from Central Casting (i.e. "Less taxes! More legislated morality!"), and watch the fireworks begin.

I apologize and I agree. You know, along that line, there is a great opportunity to combine half-assed AI and blogs to create an entirely bot-generated and quite successful political blog of hacknied phrases clicking back and forth in response to each other. Imagine the Google ad revenue stream.

It would probably be a rousing success. Back in the bad old 2400-baud BBS days, a friend of mine installed an AI bot that would answer any "Chat to Sysop" requests aimed at him. It drew from material typed by the user, as well as a stock list of phrases and quotes.

A couple of people, including a former girlfriend of his, refused to believe that they spent a couple hours chatting to a bot, not the real person.

If we set it up, every 187th comment must remark on the Flea's libertarian tendencies.
