Colin Farrell's hero sword
For anyone who had been speculating whether the rumours were true, Colin Farrell's hero sword from The New World is for sale at auction by New Line Cinema. And a fine looking sword it is.

It's a very attractive rapier. He even used it (once) almost accurately. The rest of the time, it might as well have been a wooden stick for all the benefit he seemed to derive from holding it. When Smith is ambushed in the swamp, he very briefly takes a proper fighting stance with rapier and dagger, but for the rest of the movie, he's waving it around like a frickin' claymore!

I blame theatre fight choreography and the legacy of Errol Flynn.

rapiers are for theatricals and wusses.

Funny, I said something similar to Nicholas some time back (though I couched the sentiment differently!).

Epees are toy smallswords . . . if you'd actually said smallsword, I'd yield the point, but not an epee.
