Treason

Pirates and traitors should not be deported. They should be hanged. Treason charges are a first faltering step toward doing what needs to be done.

Islamic extremists who incite violence or praise suicide attacks in Britain could face charges of treason, it emerged yesterday.
...
The charges the Crown Prosecution Service will consider include the offences of treason, incitement to treason, solicitation of murder and incitement to withhold information known to be of use to police. These offences include attacks made against British interests abroad as well as at home.

Deportation is not only an insufficient response to the jihadis and their fellow travellers. It is an immoral response. Deportation not only fails to deter these cowards and sneaks ("I am scared, how do I know you won't shoot me?", I quote.) but even in those few instances where the law is enforced it only guarantees these men take their hatred and impose it on people elsewhere. Most often deportation is to contexts where people, and especially women, have still less chance of defending themselves then commuters on the London Underground.

We have an obligation to oppose the fascists where we have the power to do so, not foist them on someone else in the hope they will then leave us alone. That was the road taken by decades of Western policy toward the troubles of so much of the world. That was the road that lead to massacre of July 7, the ones that came before it and the ones that are sure to follow if we do nothing to change our fate.

Update: Lest anyone imagine this is going to be easy, things could get much worse before they get better (via lgf).

Intelligence chiefs are warning Tony Blair that Britain faces a full-blown Islamist insurgency, sustained by thousands of young Muslim men with military training now resident in this country.

Update: Funny this Guardian article on the subject spends so much time defending the proposition Hizb ut-Tahrir is not a terrorist organization and utterly fails to mention why they should be so interested in this particular group.
