D&D vs IDF
The Israeli Defense Forces are reluctant to offer security clearance to Dungeons & Dragons players because they consider the latter to be "detached from reality and susceptible to influence".
Game enthusiasts are aware of their problematic image in the army and prefer to maintain their anonymity. Many of them are from the former Soviet Union, where the game is very popular.
Given the nonsense that guy at Hairy Tarantula was telling me about Hastur the other day I can only sympathize with the IDF position vis a vis hard-core gamers. Robert W. Chambers stealing Hastur from H.P. Lovecraft? Talk about detached from reality. Everyone knows he borrowed the name from Ambrose Bierce.
