Holding Liberals to their liberalism

Both the socialist and conversative candidates in the last federal election for my riding of Trinity-Spadina were supporters of gay marriage. That leaves the ambivalent support of Tony Ianno, the Liberal who was elected. Anti-gay Liberal MPs such as Tom Wappel (Scarborough Southwest) or Dan McTeague (Pickering-Scarborough East) are never held to account by the media for their views. It is critical that their Liberal colleagues not get away with flying under the radar on (yet another) issue of fairness, equality before the law and basic human rights.

Dear Mr. Ianno,

I am writing to you as my Member of Parliament to express my support for the government's legislation on gay marriage in Canada. I see no more important issue of domestic policy or human rights in Canada and the issue of gay marriage determines my vote. It is my understanding that as a government Minister you will be voting in support of this legislation. It is my hope that even were you not obligated to do so that you would still choose to support the opportunities of gay Canadians to equal treatment before the law regardless of their province of residence.
