Does the term "objectification" have an objectively real refferent? Is it ever possible to prove or disprove that a person is objectifying another? What year is it in Canada, 1976?

Judging by the stupidity evident in Canadian public discourse I would say 1976 sounds about right.

I'd say '86 - you could still get away with a lot of nasty, "incorrect" humour in the late '70s (just watch the recent SCTV box sets for evidence). Ten years later, you'd have been liable to lose your girlfriend, your job, even find yourself sued. I remember the late '80s as the beginning of the descent of an iron curtain over public discourse, even as another one fell.
