Krispy Kreme

Making a Krispy Kreme donut. I don't think these have made it to downtown Toronto yet so I will stick with Tim Horton's for now.

Actually there is a little Krispy Kreme outlet (not a full-size store) in the PATH system under BCE Place (161-181 Bay Street). Right around the corner from my work. Although for the obvious health reasons I stay far, far away from it. Just looking at those things makes my blood sugar levels go up.

Now I know I must make a quest! But how can they possibly live up to their reputation?

Posted by: Flea at September 15, 2004 11:26 AM

They can't.

Frankly, I just don't get the Cult of KK. When they finally arrived here in the Denver area, you'd have thought they stores were passing out $50 bills to every customer. Folks were sitting in their car for an *hour* in the drive-thru lane. Yeesh.

KK donuts are too sweet, too glazed, too small. Give me an old fashioned any time (for those rare occasions when I eat donuts).

I must disagree. I was off donuts for several years until I tried KK donuts at the first store opened in Mississauga.

After that first taste it seemed normal to wait in line in subzero weather outside the store where the end of the line was and to order in multiples of a dozen...

I had to leave the province for my health, as KK donuts threatened to overcome me...

Last time Nin and I were in TO, Tim Horton was running TV ads with the guy who won't put a coat on. We loved the ads becuase my brother is just like that. So now, whenever he won't put a jacket on, we look at each other and say, "Tim Horton man!".

As for KK, Nin is from the south as is my friend Tammy and they're worshippers at the altar of KK. I really like thier chocolate cake donut, and the best donut I ever had was a special of the month that was chocolate cherry filled.

I am not a big donut fan... I only see them when I am buying coffee. But a chocolate cake donut is something worth making a trip for!

Krispy Kreme. Gag.

Cotton candy (candyfloss?) with a small amount of flour, glazed with barely-crystallized sugar syrup. And that's from somebody who's been familiar with them from the beginning, a real Southerner. Tim Horton's are better. (Yes, I've had those, just down the street from the Flea if I understand his hints about where he is.)

But then, I don't like Krystal hamburgers either.

Mike finally had a Krispy Kreme Donut. It didn't live up to its reputation. Not by a longshot.

I don't understand all the excitement either -- they taste like plain old doughnuts to me. One of the grocery store chains here in SoCal started selling boxes of KKs recently and people treated it like the Second Coming.
