Resident Evil: Toronto

TorontobytheFlea.jpg

The full trailer for Resident Evil: Apocalypse reveals the Hive was located underneath Toronto (more properly known as Raccoon City) all along. They get a lot of mileage out of the Laboratory... ahh... "City Hall" too. Isn't this stuff supposed to be classified? Only Canadian agents of the VRWC know what we did with the vanishing CN Tower.

This is as exciting as seeing New City Hall as a (momentary) stand in for an alien civilization in Star Trek: The Next Generation!
With New City Hall, the CN Tower, and other modernist landmarks, Toronto has become the showplace for a sort of architectural modernism that is falling out of fashion nowadays. Look for Toronto becoming even more popular as a shooting site of sci-fi series and movies, as we seem thick with the type of architecture that's become iconic of the classic science fiction future ("the Future as it was")

I used to date someone who argued the CN Tower should be torn down because it was "too '70s looking." Is there such a thing as * too * '70s looking? These landmarks are, as you point out, a kind of touchstone to Space 1999, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Logan's Run. They look a bit crap now but in the long run are as precious as London's Victoriana.
