Catsup

Can anyone recommend an alternative ketchup to the brand I have sitting in the fridge? I do not intend to buy any of it again.

Ever.

More telling was Teresa Heinz Kerry. She pointed to the picture of the bowl of chilli above the clerk's head: "What's that?" she asked. He explained that it was something called "chilli" and she said she'd like to try a bowl. The Senator also ordered a Frosty, a chocolate dessert. They toyed with them after a fashion, and then got back on the bus.

Remember: this is the people's candidate (via Wizbang!).

Nick,

I am no fan of Teresa, but let's remember that she's not really a part of the Heinz corporate brand. According to the Heinz company itself, Teresa doesn't have anything to do with the management or operations of the H.J. Heinz company, and the Heinz Endowments and family trusts sold most of their company stock in 1995. They presently retain only 4%-- far from a controlling interest.

Now you could argue that the 4% still represents considerable income, and I'd agree. I don't know that it's worth a boycott, though. Teresa is only a Heinz because John Henry Heinz III had poor taste in women, then died in a plane accident in 1991. If he were still alive, she would never have married Kerry, and we'd never have heard of her.

4% you say? Hmm. Maybe I would be better off staging a sympathy girlcott of Wendy's rather than a misdirected boycott of Heinz.

I'll be boycotting the Newburgh Yacht Club and shrimp vindaloo, personally. That'll learn 'em!

Hey hey!
Ho ho!
The Newburgh Yacht Club's got to go!

I want Wendy's food so bad!

I could tell you a tale of foul corporate misdeeds at TDL Group (subsidiary of Wendy's) that would make you swear off Wendy's burgers and Tim's donuts forever. There's a court case going on and I'm not sure whether blogging about it (or how much detail) is permissible.

Maybe I should try some of their "chilli".

What is this "chilli" of which you speak anyway? ;)

I like the chilli at Wendy's, but I've been told not to eat it because it's made from leftover burgers or something. That's the least disgusting reason for not eating a particular item at one of those places I've ever heard, though.

I had a friend whose cousin (yes, this is one of those stories) used to work in a burger processing factory for a well known fast food chain. The claim was that the burgers were made of 100% Grade-A Canadian beef and also 100% Canadian sawdust as filler. They would carry the sawdust to the concrete-mixer scale beef vats and every so often would get too lazy to carry the bucket back and throw it in along with the sawdust instead. I spent a good part of my junior high school life trying to work out how many plastic buckets I would consume in the course of my life.
