Hephaestion

alexander.jpg

I would be more enthusiastic about Alexander if it was not an Oliver Stone epic. The obligatory post-Gladiator pre-battle inspirational quote does not work for me either. Angelina Jolie plays Olympias, Alexander's mum. Her nose is clearly out of joint in the above image because that trailer should probably have shown Alexander kissing Hephaestion. "Hephaestion too is Alexander."

Comments using the phrase Platonic relationship shall be mocked mercilessly and the Flea has no comment to offer about anything connected to Colin Farrell. It is a shame the Baz Luhrmann version has been cancelled.

For some weird reason, I've always had a sense of disdain for Alexander. There's no questioning his military genius and achievements at such a young age, but I can't shake off this feeling that he's sorta overhyped.

After reading Carnage and Culture by Victor Davis Hanson, I am totally disgusted by what the real Alexander was; a brutal murderous thug. But a brave and brilliant one.

Is Oliver Stone really behind this? If so, look for Gaugamela to be filmed on the Grassy Knoll.

Angelina looks hot, as usual.

Now Rue, I am not sure the comment section is here to torture Ray in that fashion! ;)

Mister Flea, whatever do you mean?

Posted by: Rue at July 13, 2004 03:17 AM

If I was at a proper computer I would track down evidence of conversations about Nigella Lawson and such!

Posted by: Flea at July 13, 2004 10:21 AM

Nigella Lawson is all right, but Rachael Ray (30 Minute Meals cooking show, $40 A Day travel show) is where it's at. Nigella's recipes are great but she frequently employs ingredients which are not often found in the busy urbanite pantry (bouquet garni, saffron, etc). Rachael's stuff has the advantage of being quick to prepare, does not require a pre-meal half hour hunt in the grocery store for mystery item #5, and she's easy on the eyes as well.

Rachael's cute, but doesn't fill out the sweater as well as Nigella or Angelina...sorry gotta get rid of the pool of drool on the keyboard...

I blame all of you for the cold shower I now have to take...

Posted by: Ray at July 13, 2004 09:47 PM

Well Ray, I agree that Ms. Lawson has uhm... considerable charms -- but Ms. Ray seems like a fun-loving kinda gal, if you know what I'm saying.

Posted by: Chris Taylor at July 13, 2004 11:51 PM

Now if she'd dress like that on 30-minute meals...Well, guess this post's been effectively hijacked.

I blame the Flea for mentioning Nigella.

Rachael is not sexy. Those pics are laughable. She is 'cute', though.

This is sexy. I'm turned on, aren't you?
