Physiologists urge the UK government to reconsider its policy bias against human space flight.

They say the policy, based on the belief that robotic exploration represents far better value for money, is a false economy.

Alan North, president of the Physiological Society, one of the scientific bodies pushing for a change in policy, said: "The pay-offs could be enormous, not just for protecting astronauts from the effects of [zero gravity] but to learn how to prevent wasting of muscle and bone here on earth."
