The English Patient
The Telegraph reports on newly released MI5 files on Count Laszlo Almasy, made famous through a film adaptation of Michael Ondaatje's novel The English Patient. The files describe the man as "very ugly and shabbily dressed, with a fat and pendulous nose, drooping shoulders and a nervous tic." This is hardly the stuff Hollywood romance is made of (Laszlo being gay would not have helped along that particular plotline either). "Ugly" seems a bit unfair. I cannot speak for his appearance while dodging Allied police in Cairo but at least in his younger days I think there is a reasonable resemblence to Ralph Fiennes.

I know this is CanCon sacrelige, but I think Kahn Sr. (of "King of the Hill") said it best when he described "The English Patient" as a long, painful, boring death!

Ralph Fiennes annoys me so I have never seen the film. Someone in London explained it to me, "Ralph Fiennes. What a twait."
