Let's face facts. It should have looked like this.
And then... That blue is from the Union standard. Here is a French version.
And an American one.
Let us see. Red, white and blue appear on the flags of the three countries most closely connected with Canada's history. Red and white, on the other hand, are the colours of the federal Liberal party. Astonishing thing that.

Being the jaded old reactionary imperialist that I am, I really liked the old Canadian red ensign. But we're never going back there.
On the other hand, I do like Newfoundland's flag, too. Sort of a modern take on the Union flag. Maybe we could adopt that one as the national flag instead.

I'm with Chris on the red ensign; that being said, what you have above still beats this Peruvian-looking thing that we've got going on anyway.

I also like the flag of Newfoundland. Of course, it it was adopted as the national flag it would only be more fuel to the fire of my ex' Newfoundland nationalist rants.
We could do something left-field like adopting a modified version of my personal favourite, the Albanian flag...
