Teletransporter

How many times have I watched Star Trek in mute horror? A friend of mine and I once realized we had all the symptoms of transporter psychosis and were getting worried until we remembered transporters do not exist. I am with Bones. I would not step into one of those things if I had the choice (now off to see what Staying Alive has to say on the subject).

And then... No spoilers here but I will say this... There is a genre of on-line psychology/philosophy tests that irritate me. In my view, it is a bit much to introduce conclusive evidence of something half-way through a test, fail to articulate its consequences and then tell the person taking the test how inconsistent their responses were.

I find that one of the choices that the quiz considers logically "consistent" within itself is essentially divorced from the "facts" that are given by the end of the quiz. You may be right, but only by going into denial.

I think the quiz is trying to make a point by showing inconsistencies no matter what your choices, but darned if I can figure out the point.

But the transporter... I cringe when at some point in each of the series it is used to cure something-or-other by re-transporting with setting to "cells of this DNA pattern only." It may not be widely known, but humans carry a bunch of other critters around and not all of them are something you'd want deleted. One example, an insect that lives at the roots of eyelashes and eats dead skin before it flakes off and scratches the cornea. And those of us who are NOT lactose-intolerant owe a lot to a bacterium in the stomach that breaks down the problematic molecules before they affect us.
