Outrage

Damian Penny writes on a despicable example of the moral bankruptcy of Canada's political caste.

Right in the midst of the Bill Sampson controversy, after a Canadian citizen was tortured and sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, dozens of MPs, Senators and other government VIPs gorged themselves on Saudi hospitality at a big reception last night - and they were bending over backwards to avoid offending their generous hosts.

So far so typical of the expediency and cowardice which has proved typical of Canadian foreign policy. This is where my blood-pressure went critical.

And worst of all, shame on newly-appointed Liberal Senator Mac Harb for mocking - yes, mocking - his countryman's allegations of torture:

"Here is someone who has been charged with a murder and who has been very successful in making himself, of being, a victim. I think we have to look at both sides of the issue," Mr. Harb said at a reception hosted by Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al-Hussaini to honour the oil kingdom's national day.

Harb is a recent appointee to the Senate, standing to make over four-million dollars with his $114,000 annual seat-warming fee. Of course, Liberal Senator Mac Harb is a world-class wing-nut. Harb on human cloning:

There is no doubt in my mind there is somebody on the planet Earth, walking, who is a clone. Not just one, mind you, but two or three spawned by some DNA manufacturing device.

Senator Harb now claims he wants to travel to "Saudi" Arabia to conduct his own personal investigation if only he can find "like minded" individuals to go with him. It is an unedifying prospect as Harb suggests his confusion lies with Bill Sampson's reluctance to trust the investigation of torture to the very government which carried it out. Harb can be reached through his Ottawa office.

I am completely flabbergasted; this man is taking idiocy to new heights.

Thanks for posting his contact details, as he'll be hearing from me...

This is what happens when the citizens and leaders of a nation lose their grip on reality and start believing their own self-spun fairy tales.

Our politicians and media cannot conceive of a Canadian being tortured because they have so obseqiously prostrated themselves to the altar of anti-Western political correctness: We hate Americans too! They deserved 9/11! We wanted to wait for the UN! We give aid to Hamas and Hezbollah! We are your friends!

We believe our own national myth -- that Canadians are non-partisan do-gooders, well-loved throughout the world. In DFAIT's logic, Bill Sampson could never have been tortured because no one hates Canada that much. Canadians are not disliked enough to be tortured, unless they behave like the hated Americans, or do something horrendous. Ergo, if he was tortured, then he must have been behaving like an American (badly), and must have deserved it. DFAIT is the diplomatic equivalent of a rapist's apologist. She was asking for it. Bill Sampson was a loose cannon who drank alcohol - in a non-alcoholic Islamic society. She should know better than to wear such a short skirt. He should have kept his head down and gone along to get along.

Our ruling class and cannot conceive of people hating us, murderously and irrationally, for no reason other than that we do not hold the same religious beliefs. Pundits, politicians, journalists and even fellow citizens fail to see that some people do not draw a distinction between Canadians or Americans or Australians or Brits. These people see only common citizens of a decadent, corrupt West. Their goal is to kill Westerners and subjugate them, regardless of citizenship.

When Canadians start dying en masse to terrorist attacks, then Canada will realize that Osama and his money-laundering bagmen are not simply misunderstood rebels. They are murderers. Their goal is pure unadulterated murder. Nothing you can offer them (except death on a grander scale) could prevent them from killing you.

Canadians deserve the protection of their government overseas. Bill Sampson didn't get much of that... It is adding insult to injury that members of the government mock his torture ex post facto. I am ashamed that Mac Harb was my MP and is our Senator now.
