Swivel service

The British government once again shows its priorities: the Health and Safety Executive has decided moving a chair is too great an ordeal for their office workers.

In most offices, when a chair is in the wrong position then immediate action is taken. Somebody moves it. But not at the Health and Safety Executive. There, employees have been banned from shifting furniture on the remote chance that they might do themselves a mischief. They are told to book a porter to complete the task - and allow two days for it to happen.

Dear god. It's as if the people who fought at Rourke's Drift were some entirely different species.

"What happened to you, Britain? You used to be cool."

My feeling is the "umma" sensed weakness and that is why they have been attacking us for the last thirty years or so. Two blessings in disguise: They over-played their hand on September 11, 2001 to the point that something like 30% of the United States electorate noticed there was a problem (probably the same in Australia, 20% in Canada and 10% in the UK) and by attacking at the first signs of weakness they struck too soon. Given another fifty years of the nonsense embodied in this article the West's transformation into Eloi would have been complete and the Morlocks might have eaten us at their pleasure.
