Israel and the Defence of the West

Victor Davis Hanson, Professor of Classics at the University of California will be speaking at Holy Blossom Temple, Toronto, Mon. May 17, 2004, at 8 p.m.

Nowhere is the divide between Western values and Islamic fundamentalism and Middle Eastern autocracy clearer than on Israel's borders. Victor Davis Hanson, Professor of Classics, University of California, and author of An Autumn of War will look at why many Westerners advocate neutrality or favour the cause of the Palestinian authority. Many of our mistaken ideas about a peace agreement in the Middle East are dividends of a growing therapeutic culture in the United States that has forgotten history and does not understand the tragic and unchanging nature of war.

I do not post on Sundays as a matter of course. This lecture came to my attention via Relapsed Catholic. Flea-readers may be amused to learn noted Toronto Star moonbat Antonia Zerbisias has had a breakdown of some kind. Her latest screed attacks Damian Penny of Daimnation!, Bob Tarantino of Let It Bleed and Kathy Shaidle of Relapsed Catholic alongside other blogosphere favourites (and that's "cybersphere" to Antonia, not noted for her exhaustive fact-checking). Pile on at the Shotgun!

And then... Charles responds here.

The fact is, this terror-enabling harpy is using her column in the Toronto Star to grind a personal axe against me and against LGF—and apparently, against anyone who has ever criticized her bizarre writing—after her ass was severely fact-checked, here and in many other blogs.

And then... Glenn Reynolds weighs in and links to Jeff Goldstein's considered opinion.

Speaking of VDH, I was watching the History Channel today and who do I see discussing the Thebian campaign against Sparta? Yup. I think I have an incredible hetero-man-crush on the guy.
