Touched a nerve
Bilgi University film student Deniz Ozgun failed his dissertation project, a pornographic film meant to demonstrate "how synthetic the sexual scenes in it were" (as opposed to porn vérité, presumably). Unfortunately, Ozgun made a bad situation considerably worse by complaining about it to the press thereby drawing attention to himself.
Because Bilgi University is in Istanbul.
Parents wanted to know what kinds of things went on at Bilgi, one of Turkey's most prestigious private universities. And, say some academics there, the Board of Education put pressure on the university to act.
As well as the firing of the three academics - who are now being investigated by the police - the entire Communications Faculty has been shut down.
Mr Ozgun, and the former student who starred in his film, have gone into hiding.

On the plus side, yesterday Deniz Ozgun was a failed film student with some bad ass Sony Vegas editing plugins. Today he is famous.

Bilgi has a reputation as one of the most liberal universities in Turkey - it was among the first to ignore the ban on Muslim women wearing headscarves on campus.
