Blue Bloods

Last Friday's debut of CBS' new policier, Blue Bloods performed well in the ratings against its predecessor in the same time slot and beats its lead in, CSI-NY. Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg are high power leads, suggesting CBS has backed this as a winner.

So why am I drawing attention to to the series? Call it another sign of a sea change in the culture; this is paeon to Reagan Democrats and everything they stand for. These blue bloods are hard working, blue collar and all about law and order and family values.

The new police drama Blue Bloods is poised to become appointment viewing on Friday nights, and not because the show is set in New York, or because it stars former Magnum P.I. hunk Tom Selleck. Viewers will take to Blue Bloods because the show focuses on a tight-knit all-American family, who just happen to be cops.

An all-American family who just happen to be cops and who just happen to be called "Reagan".

Best scene: A no nonsense cop uses a toilet to waterboard a child sex offender.

You can ignore anything CBS News has to say. This show tells us everything we need to know about where CBS thinks we are headed after November 4. But, hey, it's still CBS. Episode one has already introduced some bad guys calling themselves "Templars".
