What Would We Do

The Canada-Israel Committee has launched a campaign with a simple premise: 10,000 missiles fired at Israel's civilians in the past decade. If Canada was under attack, what would we do?

Gaza is ruled by Hamas - a terrorist organization banned under Canadian law. Hamas has declared itself at war with Israel, and has threatened a genocide of Jews. Israeli homes, schools, and communities continue to be fired upon by militant Islamic groups from Gaza. As a result, Israel inspects cargo for weapons before it enters Gaza. At the same time, Israel delivers 15,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza every week.

Save lives. Support Israel's right to block weapons from entering Gaza.

The trouble with this approach to the problem seems obvious to me. Try posing the question to anyone on the Left and find out for yourself. Here is my guess.

If Canada was under attack, what would we do? End the colonialist occupation!

Logic will not work with these people. They believe Hamas has every right to defend "Palestine". Worse yet, they believe Israel is racist and imperialist and consequently has no right to defend itself.

This being so obviously the case, I am forced to wonder at the logic underlying this campaign. But then I am a pessimist and Israel is an eternal land of optimists.

My thanks to the Canada-Israel Committee's Steve McDonald.

Somewhat more practical: Israel has launched a new spy satellite to keep an eye on Iran.
