Czarism

Politico posts a handy list of President Obama's quasi-constitutional policy czars. I would get googling but I figure this is going to be a most thoroughly, if belatedly, vetted group. In the wake of Van Jones, the inquisitive will figure there is a name to be made in researching and reporting the views of Obama's de facto cabinet.

This sort of thing used to be called "journalism".

Afghanistan Czar: Richard Holbrooke
AIDS Czar: Jeffrey Crowley
Auto recovery Czar: Ed Montgomery
Border Czar: Alan Bersin
California Water Czar: David J. Hayes
Car Czar: Ron Bloom
Central Region Czar: Dennis Ross
Domestic Violence Czar: Lynn Rosenthal
Drug Czar: Gil Kerlikowske
Economic Czar: Paul Volcker
Energy and Environment Czar: Carol Brower
Faith-Based Czar: Joshua DuBois
Great Lakes Czar: Cameron Davis
Green Jobs Czar: Van Jones
Guantanamo Closure Czar: Daniel Fried
Health Czar: Nancy-Ann DeParle
Information Czar: Vivek Kundra
International Climate Czar: Todd Stern
Intelligence Czar: Dennis Blair
Mideast Peace Czar: George Mitchell
Pay Czar: Kenneth Feinberg
Regulatory Czar: Cass Sunstein
Science Czar: John Holdren
Stimulus Accountability Czar: Earl Devaney
Sudan Czar: J. Scott Gration
TARP Czar: Herb Allison
Terrorism Czar: John Brennan
Technology Czar: Aneesh Chopra
Urban Affairs Czar: Adolfo Carrion Jr.
Weapons Czar: Ashton Carter
WMD Policy Czar: Gary Samore

You know what? I take back "quasi-constitutional". This arrangement seems straightforwardly unconstitutional to me. If it were not for the party system, and permanent expediency, I expect Congress would have long ago reached the same conclusion.

Related: Glenn Beck's list of czars has more detail including a variety of official titles.

Linking to Beck; I guess you got your "Hater & Raaaaacist!" Seekrit Decoder Ring, then?

Even more than Rush Limbaugh, Beck is de facto head of the Republican party just now.

I think Dennis Ross is a genuinely good guy.

I am glad to hear there is a good guy on the list.
