The transvaluation of values
A careful examination of comment on Daily Mail article "Teacher faces disciplinary action after parent uncovers racy lingerie photos online" is revealing. At one time, one might have expected Mail readers to be appalled at louche behaviour on the part of a school teacher; will-someone-think-of-the-children and so forth.
Not so. Instead, commenters are four-square in favour of a physical fitness and dance teacher being physically fit; a proper role-model to a generation of fat arse television viewers, in other words. And, more important, two fingers up for the PC brigade.
Which brings to a boil a conclusion that had been percolating for some time now. Call us "neocons" or "September 12 Republicans" or "liberals mugged by reality" if you wish. But when "the left" marches in the streets to support every fascist and theocratic dictatorship on earth, engages in blood libel against the Jews and does its level best to impose censorship and speech codes on the universities and the media then "the left" represents the forces of reaction. And when "conservatives" support the universal rights of women, attempt to foster democracy and representative governments in the most benighted corners of the planet and advocate the free expression of ideas - even and especially ideas they find ethically repugnant - then we are the authentic progessives.
My views have not changed. The world has not changed. Only the labels have changed.
So not an April Fools observation, btw.
